Last year, gaming definitely went a step up, some of the best games being: DOOM, Titanfall 2, Uncharted 4, Battlefield 1, Dark Souls III, Forza Horizon 3, Watch Dogs 2, Mafia III, XCOM 2 and the list goes on. Also, how could we forget the popular game Overwatch by Blizzard, which redefined the shooter genre as a whole and POKEMON: GO, which had a big boom in popularity for a couple of months, then slowly disappeared into the shadows...
This year has some big shoes to fill. Now that we're in 2017, we should start saving up because as promised, it will be packed with new game releases. For what we know, it will be a great year for gaming. It started out strong, with some sequels to well-known franchises, like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Hitman: The Complete First Season, which were released back in January, both for Console and PC. February also had some great sequels, like WWE 2K17, Sniper Elite 4 and the bike riding simulators Ride 2 and Motoracer 4. Along with all these games, there were also new and promising titles released, such as Conan: Exiles, For Honor and Horizon: Zero Dawn. As most of you gaming fans already know, March is defined by Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, Mass Effect: Andromeda and arguably, Bethesda's new card game, Elder Scrolls Legends, which is currently in open beta.
The year is already packed with new game releases you can choose to play, but it's just the beginning. So, what can we expect for the rest of the year? Simply put, a lot. There are many games to list, even after cutting the list to only the most anticipated releases. So, instead of writing a long and boring list of them all, I'll just list a few I thought were the most interesting: the long awaited Persona, Injustice 2, Tekken 7, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Outlast 2, Dirt 4, Red Dead Redemption 2, South Park: The Fractured But Whole and many more.
So far, it looks like 2017 will come close to 2016 in terms of gaming. I would say it even has a chance to beat it, with the hyped-up and newly released product from Nintendo, called The Switch. Yes, you heard it right, Nintendo created a new gaming system. You probably know all about it already from all the media coverage it got, but if you've been living under a rock, here's a short description of it: The Switch is basically a full gaming console you can play at the comfort of your own home or you can play it on-the-go. It is truly an amazing piece of technology. If you want more information on it, you can visit Nintendo's official website. With that being said, there are also many games to cover with The Switch, but I'll only list a few important and anticipated ones: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Just Dance 2017, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Splatoon 2 and these are just some of the games that were announced for 2017.
So, we can say, without a doubt, that 2017 won't go by unnoticed, at least in the gaming industry. As far as games go, PC and Consoles still hold a tight competition, along with the new Nintendo Switch, which won't disappoint us..probably.
